Some people in the world today
Lead lives like beggars locked outside the door
They got the keyring in their pocket
But they cannot remember what it’s for
The Kingdom of God
Is a fortress built from broken bricks
The rough edges squared
Mortared in place straight and true

The wisdom of this modern age
Is a drink of water to a drowning man
It does not solve his problem
And proves the giver doesn’t understand
The Kingdom of God
Is an ocean filled with hidden life
Embracing the Earth
Washing it clean in the tide

  They say the future is different
  When it comes, we shall know as we are known
  Meanwhile we look in a mirror
  And we only see what we are shown

This world has bent us to its ways
We’re crushed beneath its wheels and dead in sin
The only chance we’ve got is if we
Somehow find a way to live again
In the Kingdom of God
The impossible is everyday
Alive in his love
Given to all who agree
Shining for all who will see
Blood shed for you and for me
In the Kingdom of God

The lyrical trick here is that each verse contains two thoughts, and the phrase “Kingdom of God” is the ending of the first thought and the beginning of the second.  It’s as if that was what the whole song was about.  :)
